Flosequinan Oral

FLOSEQUINANORAL
(flow-seh-KWIN-an)
USES: This medication is used to treat congestive heart failure (CHF). This drug has been withdrawn from the U.S. market due to safety or effectiveness problems.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth as prescribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. Do not increase your dose, skip any doses or take this more often than directed. The effects of this medication are not immediate. It may take up to 4 to 8 weeks before improvement in symptoms is observed.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. It usually disappears with continued treatment. Other common side effects reported include cough, runny nose, weakness, nausea, diarrhea or altered taste. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: dizziness, lightheadedness, faintness, chest pain, rapid pulse, skin rash, muscle or joint pain, swelling of the face/hands/feet, breathing trouble. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these effects. Use caution performing tasks requiring alertness if this medication causes you to feel drowsy or dizzy. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing conditions, such as: kidney disease, liver disease, bleeding disorders, heart rhythm problems, coronary artery disease, any allergies, (especially to quinolone antibiotics). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: blood pressure medication, digoxin, blood thinners, cimetidine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: This medication is initially given in the hospital where your condition can be monitored closely. Your blood pressure will be taken frequently and laboratory tests will be done periodically to be sure the drug is working properly and to monitor for possible side effects.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
